Metallica 3D Movie Confirmed

Published by Jason Le Miere on Revolver

Metallica’s official website has confirmed that a 3D movie featuring the band is on the horizon, with a release planned for next year. The statement on the website reads:

“As you know, we generally make it a policy not to comment on gossip or rumors, but we also pride ourselves on being first with ‘Tallica news. So, with that said, the more astute of you may have noticed a couple of mentions in trade publications, and most recently in the new issue of Rolling Stone, that a Metallica 3D movie is in the works.

“We’re here to tell you that, yes, there is indeed a 3D project in the very early stages of production! We wish we could tell you more right now, but we don’t have all the finer points nailed down just yet. What we can tell you is that we are planning on being in a theater near you sometime in 2013 and as you hear us say ever so often, this will be the space for all the details as we finalize them.”

According to Deadline.com, Metallica will be self-financing the feature and have already recruited producer Charlotte Huggins (Journey to the Center of the Earth, Journey 2: the Mysterious Island).

Adele unbeatable at the Grammys?

Published by Breeanna Hare, CNN

This week's special unveiling the top Grammy nominations was a 60-minute encapsulation of the year in music: There was Lady Gaga, of course, a Nicki Minaj sighting, a glimpse of Katy Perry and another of Bruno Mars.

But the five-letter name on everyone's lips was Adele, the British singer who picked up six nominations and managed to steal the show without even being there. Screaming commenced when her name was mentioned, Entertainment Weekly reports, and the love was so widespread, her competition joined in.

"She's the coolest, most down-to-earth woman, and of course she has a voice like an angel and her album is incredible," Bruno Mars, who's also up for six Grammys and is vying for album of the year with the singer, told CNN. Thinking about that, he joked, "Damn it, why am I up against Adele?!"

Country singer Jason Aldean expressed his sympathies for "anybody who has to go up against Adele." He admitted, "I was actually hoping that if we did get a nomination, it wouldn't be any category with her in it." (His hopes came true: Aldean is up for best country solo performance, best country duo/group performance and best country album honors.)

The 23-year-old Adele has had a banner year since releasing her second album, "21," in February, and her singles "Rolling In the Deep" and "Someone Like You" have been impossible to escape. (She's had to cancel her remaining 2011 appearances to have throat-related surgery but is expected to make a full recovery.)

Adele the belle of the Grammy ball
But does her success make her unbeatable? If not, then pretty close to it, industry observers say.

Spin magazine's editor-in-chief, Steve Kandell, said he is fairly convinced. The Grammys can surprise you, he said, but Adele is a unique artist.

Whereas some of her competitors may incite arguments about talent, "with Adele, you just have a singer, in the very classic sense," Kandell said. "She may not be your favorite, but you can't deny that she's good at what she does."

Frankly, he's expecting the young star "to win everything that isn't nailed down. ... Every now and then there's a juggernaut that's the perfect mix of huge commercial success (the album recently went quadruple platinum) and critical acceptance."

That's not to diminish the talents and achievements of the other players who are also in the running, said Bill Werde, Billboard's editorial director, but rather to view "21" as a different beast.

"Kanye (West) put out a really good album; Kanye and Jay-Z put out a really good album; Bruno Mars has emerged as a really powerful songwriter; and Katy Perry this year set Billboard chart records. It's been a phenomenal year for music," Werde said.

And yet, "When you talk about Adele's year, it's hard to make the case, from a recorded music perspective, that anyone else is even in the same arena," he continued. "What the Grammy voters tend to love are albums that are both critically successful and commercially successful, and she is an arrow in the heart of that bull's-eye this year. ... It's like Adele and everyone else when it comes to sales, and at the same time, she did it with an album that's incredible."

To top it off, added MTV Hive's managing editor, Jessica Robertson, she's got the back story: "This album ('21') was born from heartache; she was lovelorn. She's an unlikely pop star in the first place, and then she goes on with this amazing voice to triumph," Robertson said. Basically, she's "served on a Grammy platter."

Of course, there are no guarantees. Robertson said she sees the Foo Fighters bringing some heat for the industry darling in the album of the year category, and Werde noted that Grammy predictions are hit-or-miss.

"To be honest, I'm expecting it to be a big night for Adele," Werde said. "(But) it's in the voters' hands, and if I've learned one thing about predicting Grammy votes over the last 10 years, it's that no one is particularly good at it."

Interestingly enough, the artist consistently mentioned as the one who could have stepped on Adele's toes for album of the year is none other than Kanye West, who wasn't even nominated in that category.

The 34-year-old rapper received seven nominations, including a song of the year nod for "All of the Lights," a category in which he'll face Adele's "Rolling In the Deep." But it was the album of the year miss for West's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" that left many incredulous.

"Kanye certainly deserved an album of the year nomination, and I was pretty surprised that he didn't," Robertson said. "I think if anyone could beat Adele in that category, it would be Kanye, or at least rival her. But he didn't really have the momentum with this album as with previous albums, and certainly not in comparison to Adele's '21.' "

(Robertson also has a theory that West may have split the vote by also putting out another critically recognized album with Jay-Z, "Watch the Throne.")

If West had been nominated, said Spin's Kandell, the race for the album of the year honor would've been a tight one.

As it stands though, he said, "If I'm another nominee, I'm happy to be there."

Robin Gibb 'battling cancer'

Published on MUSIC NEWS.com

Bee Gees star Robin Gibb has reportedly been diagnosed with liver cancer.

The 61-year-old singer has been seen looking increasingly frail in public over the last few weeks.

He was thought to be suffering from stomach problems, but earlier this week was rushed to hospital after his health deteriorated. He spent five hours there on Tuesday and is now back at home with his family. His 91-year-old mother and musician brother Barry have both flown to the UK from America to be with him.

'Robin is not good and there is a lot of concern for him. You can use your wealth to call in the best experts but sometimes no amount of fame, prestige and money can change things when it comes to cancer,' a friend of the star told British newspaper The Sunday Mirror.

'But Robin is a strong character, he is a fighter and has been encouraged by all the online messages from his fans. Dwina [his wife] is doing everything possible and hasn't left his side.

'There will be difficult times ahead but Robin will never give up and his loving family will make sure he has everything he needs. There is frustration because Robin has always looked after himself. He doesn't drink, eats well and exercises daily.'

Dwina has apparently been studying alternative medications, and has also arranged for Robin to be treated by a London clinic. He will also go to hospital appointments and see a separate doctor.

The two have been married for 26 years and have a son together called Robin-John.

Robin's mother Barbara is staying with him and Dwina at their home in Oxfordshire, while Barry and his wife Linda are at their own house in Buckinghamshire.

The family have suffered several heartbreaks over the years. Robin and Barry's brother Andy died aged 30 in 1988, while Robin's twin Maurice passed away in 2003.

'It is incredibly sad for Barbara. First she lost her son Andy, then Maurice and now she has to cope with seeing Robin like this,' another insider told the publication.

'It is a lot for a mother, particular of her age, to deal with. Barry has also been there for his brother and a lot of friends have been rallying round.'

In October, Robin was hospitalised after experiencing stomach pains. He then pulled out of several performances.

His family have not commented on the report.

Coldplay 2012 Tour Dates

There’s a high price to pay for Coldplay tickets, but that is down to Coldplay are one of the biggest rock bands in the world. After surfacing in 2000 with the breakthrough single "Yellow," Coldplay quickly became one of the biggest rock bands of the new millennium, a mix of introspective Brit-pop and anthemic rock that landed the British quartet a near-permanent residence on record charts worldwide. The group's emergence was perfectly timed; Radiohead had just released the overly cerebral Kid A, while Oasis had ditched two founding members and embraced psychedelic experimentation on Standing on the Shoulder of Giants. U.K. audiences were hungry for a fresh-faced rock band with big aspirations and an even bigger sound, and Coldplay were more than happy to take the reins.
They have won a number of music awards throughout their career, including six Brit Awards — winning Best British Group three times, four MTV Video Music Awards, and seven Grammy Awards from twenty nominations. As one of the world's best-selling music artists, Coldplay have sold over 50 million records worldwide. Coldplay tickets have raised funds for various social and political causes, such as Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign and Amnesty International. The group has also performed at various charity projects such as Band Aid 20, Live 8, Sound Relief, and Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief, and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

On 24 October 2011, they released their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto. Mylo Xyloto moved more than 447,000 copies in its first week on the charts. The group has referred to Mylo Xyloto - which features a cameo from Rihanna on “princess of China”- as "schizophrenic" thanks to the wide range of sounds it explores. Coldplay's recently released fifth album, Mylo Xyloto, hit the top of the charts in the UK and America.

Rihanna 'Killed It' On Talk That Talk's 'Watch N' Learn'

Published by Jocelyn Vena on MTV News.

'I really feel like, this song, it's going to be big,' producer Hit-Boy tells MTV News.

Rihanna has given fans a taste of her November 21 release Talk That Talk in the form of two singles: the Calvin Harris party starter "We Found Love" and the Dr. Luke club banger "You Da One."

The album features nine other booty-shaking, NSFW tunes about getting frisky, with production credits from a number of noted hitmakers like Stargate, Bangladesh and The-Dream. Another producer, Hit-Boy, made the final cut with his sexy, instructional "Watch n' Learn."

"She definitely murdered it vocally," he told MTV News. "I was just at the studio last week listening to a mix of it, and man, she killed it. I really feel like, this song, it's going to be big. I'm really excited about it."

The track wasn't originally slated for any artist in particular when Hit-Boy (who has produced for Lil Wayne, the Throne, Eminem and Jennifer Lopez, to name a few) started working on it.

"I kind of went into the situation blind, but I had this track I actually started at home, and the one day I was at the studio with this amazing [songwriter] Priscilla Renea, and I was going to tell her to go home, but I was like, 'Stay here and see if you could come up with an idea for this,' " he recalled of the track's origin. "And by the time I got back to the house she sent me the idea through iChat, and I was like, 'Man, this is crazy.' So we got it to [Rihanna], and they went crazy, and she cut it, and that's what it is!"

The song, like many on the album, focuses on two people getting frisky. So why is Rihanna feeling so hot and bothered this time around?

"I mean it's called Talk That Talk, and she's definitely talking that talk — especially, I know, from my record," he said. "It's called 'Watch n' Learn,' and people will understand what it's about once it comes out. It's a very sexy record, but it's fun. It's [got] great melodies; it's catchy; the beat knocks. It's so many different elements to it."

Some dates for Rihanna's UK tour:

18/11/2011 19:00 Birmingham - Birmingham LG Arena
28/11/2011 19:30 Manchester - MEN Arena
22/12/2011 19:00 London - The O2
